Robin and Lillian stood in the lobby going over the checklist for the rehearsal this evening. Robin looked up to see Delbert Hamilton and Camille Montgomery headed toward them. Great, just what they needed. But she pasted a welcoming—hopefully convincing—smile on her face.

“Delbert, Camille. How nice to see you.” Robin hoped her tone was welcoming enough.

“We have reservations here for the weekend.” Camille let out a long sigh. “Mama has rented out our home here for the weekend. I keep telling her that she should stop renting it out. I mean, what if we need it for some reason and it’s not available? Just like this weekend. It’s just so… inconvenient.”

Delbert smiled, seemingly ignoring Camille’s complaints. “We have reservations here for the weekend. Two suites.”

“Yes, I saw you on the reservation list.” Lillian shook Del’s outreached hand. “We’re so glad to have you staying with us.”

“We’re here for Ben’s wedding and I do need to pop over to Moonbeam Bay and check on how the renovations are going on The Cabot Hotel there. Staying here just makes all that easier.” He winked. “Plus, you know I adore your lovely inn.”

Lillian smiled. “Thank you. Why don’t you come this way and I’ll get you checked in?”

Delbert left with Lillian, and Camille turned to Robin. “So… another wedding here. I just do not get the… allure. It’s so… rustic.”

“I’d hardly call the inn rustic. It’s… lovely. And charming. And—” She stopped. There was no convincing Camille, so why bother?

“And why people insist on outside weddings. It’s so humid and just… well, there are bugs, too.” Camille shook her head, her perfectly curled hair bouncing about her shoulders.

“Charlotte’s wedding is going to be incredible. Wonderful. Enchanting.” She wondered if her smile was beginning to fade.

“Delbert insisted on coming because he and Ben have become friends. Why, I’ll never fathom. They are so… different.” Camille frowned.

She looked honestly perplexed on how a man who ran a chain of luxury hotels and a man who ran a marina could become friends.

“Camille—you—”

Delbert came back just in time to keep Robin from saying something she shouldn’t.

“Camille, darlin’, let’s go on up to our rooms. We’ll get all unpacked. Then we’ll head on over to Moonbeam Bay.”

“Delbert, I think I’ll just stay here. I don’t really feel like the drive. Though I don’t know what I’ll do to keep occupied here at the inn.”

A beach walk? A light lunch? A drink at the outside bar? Read? But Robin just kept her ever-fading smile and said nothing.

Delbert and Camille left to go up to their rooms and Robin let her face relax. She looked down at where she was clutching the to-do list. It was now a wrinkled wad of paper from her grip.

Ah, well.

She’d just do her best to avoid Camille while she was here. Steering clear of Camille was always the best plan.
